HOW WILL YOU RATE YOUR COMPLIANCE?
As per the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of ’93 – DMR regulation 18)...
it is compulsory that all Lifting Equipment Operators must be trained and certified as per TETA and SAQA requirements.
According to the National Code of Practice, Lifting Equipment operators must undergo theoretical and practical training. This entails that they need to be assessed on a prescribed method and if found competent a certificate with a carry card must be issued. The carry card issued with the certificate is only valid for 24 months after the date of competency, the learner then has 90 days after the date of expiry, to do a recertification, failure to comply, will result in the learner having to redo the full training. A learner can only be found competent once all outcomes of the Unit Standards for Lifting Equipment have been assessed and competence has been verified. The Transport Education and Training Authority (TETA) requires that a learner attending Lifting Equipment training must have the necessary qualifications on entering the training program. This can include NQF Level 2 qualification and the learner must be medically fit.
